Fall IS HERE!! Want to know the best places in South Carolina to see the colors?

Fall Color Report, October, 2017

Cool crisp mornings herald the beginning of fall and the autumnal color change.  The entire forest has begun to change from the deep verdant hues of summer to lighter shades of green, tinged with yellow.  Sourwoods and dogwoods currently display the brightest colors as their deep crimson tones begin to pop against the mellow yellow greens of the canopy.  The late summer drought has stressed some trees causing leaves to wither and fall.  The sugar maples and redbuds are yellowing now and will continue to change in the coming days. Peak color will probably be a progression with the mountain peaks seeing their best color the last week of October and the lower elevations along the Highway 11 corridor seeing the best color at the end of October first of November.
